Our Goal for the Future
Our goal at Backstreet Performing Arts has always been to provide a quality dance education that brings confidence, discipline, and commitment to our young dancers. With this new year coming up, we are again re-evaluating our commitment and approach to your child’s dance education, building a ballet curriculum that will better serve the development of our young dancers.
Classical ballet training is the cornerstone of any dancer’s journey and our new curriculum will allow our teachers to facilitate organized and progressive training through which our students will be physically and artistically challenged as we simultaneously cultivate a joy for dance and movement.
In general, a dancer will get out of their training what they put into it, and excellence requires regular and devoted training, on the part of both teacher and dancer. This new curriculum is designed for accuracy and consistency across class and teacher. It facilitates the growth of the dancer through detailed training, placing emphasis on clear, articulated principles in order to build a strong dance foundation. A strong balance in retire` is integral to the successful execution of a double or triple pirouette.
Our re-organized ballet program is not a “new” direction for the studio, but is being developed as a means to cultivate a stronger awareness of our physical bodies, to understand how technical requirements overlap across genres, and how quality takes time and commitment. Most importantly, the new curriculum forces teachers and students to focus on proper execution that both prevents injury and improper habits while lengthening the life of any dance career.
We Welcome…..
Most recently our Wednesday Modern class has had the great privilege of working with Ronald E. Brown, thanks to Maura Townsend, our regular instructor. Ron Brown comes to us with a rich dance and choreography experience that he has generously shared with our students. A former principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey America Dance Theater, he has traveled the world as a well-renowned and highly acclaimed dancer, teacher, and choreographer. He brings to the classroom an investment in both strong technique - Horton, that taught and utilized by the Ailey Company and School - as well as artistry.
We welcome Ron Brown to our school, thank him for his generous offerings, and look forward to his continued presence.
Auto Pay is here….
Auto pay will be the standard form of payment accepted at the studio. It is a simple deduction taken out of your checking or savings account each month on a specified date of your choosing. Additional payments can also be added for specific items. See the office to sign up.
